A később Moliére néven ismertté vált, 22 éves Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (Romain Duris) kiváló vándorkomikus, ám a neki kedves tragikus szerepeket a közönség nem díjazza, sőt hitelezői börtönbe vettetik.
